SAVE THE DATE: Farm Share Member Social will be Saturday, October 2nd from 3p-5p here at the farm. We'll have food and beverages - and door prizes! You're welcome to bring food to share if you'd like to showcase something you enjoy, but there's no obligation. We (Dan and Janet) will be here to meet you, match faces with names, answer any questions, and give a brief farm tour at 4:00. It's a lovely thing to visit the farm on a fall afternoon and soak in the surroundings! We hope you'll be able to visit where we've grown so much food for you this season!
SAVE THE DATE Part II: We're hosting another Rustic Crafting Workshop on Oct 9 & 10. Details are here as a Facebook event. Our guest instructors are talented and amazing! Join us to make you own chef's knife blade, or carve a wooden spoon, or stitch a leather bag, or make a bow-drill kit, or one of numerous other options.
Plus our instructors bring gorgeous creations that are for sale:
Meanwhile, here on the farm, even though it's the very first of August we are getting fall crops established in the fields. These baby Broccoli and Kale plants have to really be babied to survive in July heat! Fortunately, this week's forecast is very mild for August which will help the plants tremendously.
Vegetable Storage Reminder: keep Tomatoes and Eggplants OUT of the fridge. All GREENS and ROOTS need to be refrigerated in an AIR TIGHT bag or container to prevent going limp/wilty.
If you're short on fridge space, you can also keep Peppers, Onions, Potatoes, Garlic, and Cucumbers (for a brief time) out of the fridge.
EGGPLANT Recipe suggestion: These beauties suck up the flavor of whatever you surround them with, so cover/coat/soak them with yumminess! Whether you go an Italian route or use an Asian inspired combination of flavors, we love to slice them in 1/4 inch thickness and cook them down with tons of herbs/sauces/flavors. Another option is to marinate slices in olive oil, salt, minced garlic, and vinegar. Then roast in the oven at 350 until soft. This convinces even our most skeptical young children!
--->Remember to collect Tomatoes in paper bags with your name on them! - (We don't put them in cold storage with the other vegetables that we keep in our walk in cooler for the night before your pick up day.) They are in a crate right beside the green boxes/cold vegetables. (Same for breads, flowers, and a cooler for fermented vegetables, and eggs...)
