THANK YOU to everyone who renewed their Farm Share membership for 2022! We appreciate you and your trust in us as farmers. Leeks, garlic, onions, and flowers are already in the ground growing for you.
We've now had our first freeze of the season - it was 29 degrees here a week ago and 28 degrees yesterday morning. Interestingly, this year we didn't have a frost before this freeze. (A frost is when the temp drops to just above freezing but the conditions are right for a frost to form on surfaces.) We can't remember that happening before. This is what your Salad Mix looks like after a freeze! (It recovered. It can do that for a little while - but not indefinitely - after experiencing 29 degrees.)
Accordingly, more and more of our harvest is coming from inside our hoophouses - see photo above and below. (Header photo is courtesy of emi-arts.com, the mother of one of our staff who took great shots while she visited from California!)
REMINDER: This week is the final week of our 2022 Farm Share. We'll harvest hard to finish up the FarmShare, then scale back a bit for the week of Thanksgiving, then harvest what we can for the first two weeks in December. Then we'll take a break from harvest during the darkest part of winter.
Vegetable Storage Reminder: All GREENS and ROOTS need to be refrigerated in an AIR TIGHT bag or container to prevent going limp/wilty.
The delicious fermented vegetables listed here are also from Katherine at Gathered Threads. We've been making our own fermented/cultured vegetables for years, and hers are the most delicious we've ever tasted! Give them a try. Your taste buds and your gut flora will thank you. This month's options include:
And - There are no Eggs available this week. But there will be next week! (Via our self-serve FarmStand and potentially through offering one-time shares using the Harvie Digital FarmStand - you'll receive notice in email if you are subscribed.)
Blessings on your meals ~
