It's been another hot week on the farm but fortunately, late in the week we got a little break from the oppressive heat. The heat doesn't stop us but it does cause us to alter our work schedule and take a lot more breaks. This past week we worked from about 5am-2pm to dodge most of the heat. We also spend the latter part of the day washing vegetables to help keep us cool.
The farm continues to grow very well but as I write this, a threatening storm is looming. We're praying we are able to dodge hail and devastating winds. We'll keep you updated on how we fare through this severe weather.
Assuming we weather this storm we have lots of new crops ripening up. We have onions that are sizing up into very nice bulbs, expect to start seeing onions in your CSA in the next week or two. We also have sweet corn, green beans, carrots, zucchini, red potatoes and basil nearly ready. If you're a farm stand recipient, look for an email on Wednesday for most of the above assuming adequate inventory!
Harvie is really going to start coming in handy for you as you'll be able to swap things around to create the perfect, or close to, share for you. It can be a little difficult to create the perfect share early in the season when the options are more limited.
Thanks for your support this season and we'd love to hear what you think about our CSA so far. Send us a message on Facebook or send us an email dan@cedarcratefarm.com
