It's starting to feel like fall on the farm. The weather is cool, the winter squash are ripening, and some of our summer favorites like cucumbers and squash are dwindling down. The nice thing about fall is that some of our early season favorites are making a comeback. Arugula, spinach, and radishes are looking really good and are ready to make a reappearance in the coming weeks.
We are finally picking a good amount of tomatoes. Expect them in your shares this week. Our tomatoes have had a tough go this year due to several factors. First, we had to outsource starting our tomatoes this season and the quality of our transplants was a lot lower than what we are able to do. We always prefer to start our own plants ourselves but due to selling our house in March is just wasn't possible. We're excited to start our own seeds again next year! Second, we had an untimely frost that damaged nearly all of our tomato plants right before we were hoping to transplant them. We decided to leave them in their pots for a couple weeks to recover before transplanting them. These two factors greatly delayed our tomato harvest this season. We're really bummed!
The good news is that we should have tomatoes for a few weeks until we get the first frost. They've been pretty tasty this season so we're really happy about that too. Our peppers faced a similar challenge as our tomatoes but we should have bell peppers in the CSAs in the coming weeks as well.
