D&V Organics CSA Week 10
Our push into warm season crops continues this week as we are starting to see the first ripe tomatoes in our second planting. As mentioned a couple weeks ago, the late(r than expected) Spring frost we had in May really messed up our first planting of tomatoes, causing some hard to diagnose physiological issues and rendering most of the planting garbage. The only varieties that have seemed to muscle their way through the damage, although with way lower than expected yield, are cherry tomatoes and campari-type tomatoes. We are putting both types of tomatoes on this week's CSA availability, and hope to be including more tomato diversity as our second round of tomatoes reaches maturity. This past week, we began harvesting what we think is one of our most flavorful varieties of cantaloupe, a variety named Sarah's Choice. It doesn't always look pretty on the outside, but when fully ripe, it is incredibly aromatic and so sweet and delicious. We also began picking a new type of watermelon, a variety named Dark Belle, which is a dark green mini oblong type with seeds and a really sugary sweet red flesh. We are excited to be putting these new items in shares this week.
Enjoy,
Derek & Vicky
