D&V Organics CSA
Week 1
We are excited to begin Week 1 this week. With this year's early warm weather, we've been harvesting for the past week for our farmer's market and wholesale customers, so we are eager to begin this year's CSA.
After farming our particular farm for the past 7 years, we have identified things that do particularly well and some other things that are maybe more effort than they are worth. That being said, we continue to experiment with new varieties/cultivars each season and continuously look for areas to expand our selection in characteristics that we all can appreciate, flavor! It is awfully temping going through the seed catalogues each Winter, seeing new types of broccoli or watermelon or tomato, so we have to exhibit some level of restraint. Some new additions this year include sweet potatoes, butternut squash and various other cultivars of winter/hard squash, some new flavorful tomato varieties, watermelon and melon varieties, as well as some new cucumber, zucchini and radish varieties. Experimenting allows us to discover new varieties of vegetables that may have characteristics that are more beneficial to our production methods, as well as better flavor than varieties that we have used for years. It is exciting for us to "find" these new varieties for our own enjoyment, but to also be able to share that with our CSA members and customers. Oftentimes the various things we grow on our farm are unlike what is commonly found in the grocery store, and we are excited to give you all a front row seat.
We hope you enjoy,
Derek and Crew
