D&V Organics CSA
Week 4
The work on the farm each year hits a busiest point, typically right around the first of June, and this year is no different. Most of our earliest spring vegetables and melons are in the ground at this point and we are tasked with establishing and maintaining the maturing vegetables and constantly thinking about the ones coming up. Each week we are planting new successions of lettuce, up to a point in which the summer heat will be too much to grow it for a couple of months. As we move into the warmer months, we are finding our weekly rhythm of managing all the tasks, harvesting, greenhouse work, field and crop maintenance and continually planting new crops for the months ahead. It's hard to imagine, but even this early in the season, we are strategizing for our fall plantings, thinking about what fields we need to be preparing for specific crops. In another couple of weeks, our greenhouse work begins to grow seedlings for the fall.
Enjoy,
