Posted on July 14th, 2019 by Daybreak Growers Alliance

Mid-Summer is Upon Us!

We’re enjoying all that summer has to offer, especially the great produce coming from the fields. This week we have the first of the snap peas from Dig Deep Farm and broccoli from New Beat Farm. Other items in some shares include fresh onions, garlic scapes, lettuce heads, radicchio, chard, kale, kohlrabi, cabbage, turnips, beets and bunches of delicious basil, cilantro and parsley. The cheese share this week comes from Appleton Creamery.

Not crazy about something in your box? Go to My Preferences in your account profile and use the product rating system, there are five ratings you can give a product from “Love it” to “Not for me”, this will help customize your share box. And don’t forget you can swap items in your box, look for the “Time to customize your share” e-mail that arrives on Wednesdays and click on the Swap Items button.

Are your friends envious of all the fresh food you receive in your farm share? Refer A Friend and you can both earn a $25 credit towards purchasing extras, now that’s a delicious deal! See details in your account profile.

An Update From Villageside Farm

Hello Daybreak CSA Members!

As one of your Daybreak food growers, we thank you for supporting local farms and farmers. A whole lot gets connected through good food. Farmers and consumers, rural and urban livelihoods, soil and water, insects, birds, weather, seeds. Isn't it so fortunate to eat well?

We at Villageside are enjoying every meal on the porch these days. Last night we feasted on grilled garlic scapes and snap peas sauteed in a gigantic wok over a big outdoor burner. Not quite camping but so fun to cook and eat outside.

Our appetites are earned by days full of outdoor labor. Harvesting takes up the bulk of each morning then we move to the packshed where we wash and pack til noon or so. We weed in the late afternoons and put in transplant then, too. This week we have been putting hay in the barn for our small herd of cows. The cows won't taste this hay 'til October but they will relish it all winter long.

It is all going along well here at Villageside. We thank you for your support and wish you a very happy, healthy summer!!
