Saturday "turnipped" to be a fun day of harvesting. Started off with Gail whipping up apple-cinnamon pancakes for breakfast to assure there was plenty of fuel and energy. The contest of looking for the largest turnip began immediately. We had a tie between Jade and Paige. They each found one that weighed in at 2 pounds 6 ounces. Jade, Connor, Kaylen and Dylan finished up the field by early afternoon. Washed, boxed and stored in the cooler all ready for fall and winter eating. Dylan finished the regular daikon radish as well. We are impressed with their white satin skin and pearly white interiors. We are still working on the purple and green daikons and watermelon radish.
This week was totally a great harvesting week. Weather was prefect and no bugs. The construction is continuing inside the Red Shed. Did we mention the long awaited functioning bathroom is complete! Whoop, whoop. Modern conveniences are appreciated more when you have to wait and wait and wait. As struggles continue in our every-day lives we seem to be appreciating the fact that we have the awesome opportunity to harvest good healthy food for others. Enjoy and come out to see us someday.
