Farm Share for October 19-20, 2022

Posted on October 16th, 2022 by Gail and Maurice Smith

Saturday we finished the squash harvest!  This photo is the last pallet to be hauled to the Red Shed for storage.  According to the weather predictions, just in time for 20 degree temperatures to hit.  Squash can take a bit of frost, but, not freezing temperatures.  Ideal storage temperature is 50-55 degrees.

Can you believe it?  For many of you on the 18 week farm share program, this is week 17.  One more left.  If you have any boxes on hold because of vacations or whatever now would be the time to activate them. It certainly has been a  journey.  Labor shortages impacted us more than the summer drought laced with storms that can rip plastic off a greenhouse in the manner of minutes. We have managed to hire 4 more people in the last month.  Lots of training involved and major scheduling issues in today's world makes life so complicted.

if you haven't done so, please turn your farm share boxes into your drop site.  We are running out of boxes and may need to use some substitutes.

If you would like to enroll in the Early Winter Farm Share program there is still space available.  It runs for 6 weeks beginning November 9th and ending December 15th.  There is a dozen eggs included in the 3/4 bushel box.  Our bread maker retired.  I belive the describtion says something about bread available, so that's not going to happen!  Great way to stock up for winter and the holiday eating.

As always have a great week and you are always welcome to visit the farm.
