Hello everyone. Another beautiful sunny day with no rain in sight. All the outdoor activities are super fun when you don't have to worry about rain. Hope you enjoyed your first box of simply delicious organic produce. We have some new people helping with the packing. Mistakes might be made. Lots of details to tend to and it can be a bit overwhelming.
The photo above is Gail rotovating a hopeful crop of winter squash. The rotovator attached to the tractor has two tiller heads. Some precision driving is involved. The plants that you want to keep basically squish between the two tiller heads. The field is covered with a "nice" crop of pig weed. It is being turned into a green manure crop. It will break down and the nutrients will be used by the squash assuming it rains someday. The plants were covered with dirt and dust after the rotovating. A rather sad look.
This week we have added rhubarb and snap peas. In case you missed out on that rhubarb cobbler early on you get a second chance. If you are confused about which peas, snap peas are, they are the peas you eat the pod and all. Hopefully, we will be transplanting lots of late crops this week with the new people working. Education and experience about how vegetables are grown is on top of the learning curve. Course a strong back helps when you are out harvesting what seems like an endless supply of summer squash!
As always have a great week and remember you are always welcome to come to the farm.
