Happy sunshine to you all. Hope this newsletter finds all of you well. We have one employee out with Covid. Please send out a prayer for Mike. He works here to keep his body moving and loves gardening. Kind of a broken man. Working here is his therapy and was doing well until his Covid exposure. The last 3 weeks have been rough for him. On another note, like all farmers we have to discuss the weather. Wow, in the last week we received 6 1/4 inches of rain. The lawn is bright green and no longer crunchy when walked upon. We may have to mow lawn this week for the fourth time all summer! More rain in one week than the entire summer. It was definitely needed. It has created chaos in the greenhouses. Damp, cool and endless clouds turn some of the greens to mold.
This past weekend we hosted a pair through the WWOOF program. Kathy and her daughter Illy. Pictured this week. WWOOF stands for Worldwide Opportunities on Organic Farms. The idea is to link visitors with organic farmers. Promote an educational exchange. Hosts provide food and accommodation. Their idea was to get out of the big city and away from screens. Unfortunately, they didn't get to be outside much. The plan was to pick up squash. The rain changed plans. They were able to experience seeding of lettuce for the lettuce heads you receive, trimming and deadheading the geraniums for new growth, and cut back native perennials in the comfort of the greenhouses.
Jade (who usually packs your box) and her 12-year-old son, Connor went apple picking at a neighbor's orchard this weekend. Connor was on a mission to pick delicious McIntosh apples for farm share. He called me up and assured me they were delicious (he was on his 3rd apple and fighting the hornets) and they had not been sprayed with anything. They are appearing as an extra item to purchase.
As always have a great week and come to visit.
