It has been so nice to get a rainfall every so often this past little while. It keeps us on our toes and foils our daily plans sometimes, but I would take that any day over a drought!
Pictured above is one of our blocks that is planted for the fall. We've got lettuce, onions, beans, turnips and more in there! They are looking good and we are hopeful that we will have plenty of fall veggies to choose from. We will start turning over some of our covered areas as well, adding rows between the tomatoes in the greenhouses and even pulling out some crops like the almost-spent cucumbers and some of the tomato varieties. While some people are on vacation, we are putting in extra hours to make sure the veggies keep on coming!
We will have limited quantities of garlic this week! It will be available as a swap item only since there isn't enough to go around! I am chatting with my aunt Christine at Forman Farms about getting some of theirs to have for next week.
We will have sweet corn again from Forman Farms this week! We received some good reviews of the corn so we are happy to drive down and pick up some more! It will be available in the swap and extras area when you customize your share.
There will be more products available from Sarah at Barking Root Botanicals this week!
Hungarian Hot Peppers - Hungarian hot peppers range from 1,000 to 15,000 Scoville Heat Units and are typically used fresh or pickled. They also range in colour from pale yellow to red. Sarah's tend to be typically at the higher end of the heat scale.
Chamomile Tea - Chamomile brings a sense of well-being, lightens the spirit and restores peace. It is safe to use for both children and the elderly or unwell.
Stop the Hamster Tea - A blend of skullcap, chamomile and lemon balm. Sarah drinks this tea every single night. Skullcap is known for stopping your mind from spinning (hence the name Stop the Hamster) and easing anxiety without sedating. Chamomile works as a mild sedative, while lemon balm helps reduce nervous tension and agitation.
Our strawberries are producing some berries and we will give them out as we have them. We are hoping that everyone will receive one container before the end of the season.
