Nathan on Late Fall at the Farm

Hello Winter CSA Members!

The farm is shifting seasons once again. As I write this update to you, we're getting buried under 4 inches of snow, so it's definately feeling like winter around here!

The first measurable snow of the season this week!

Here are a few things that are changing for us down in our SE corner of the state as the giant flakes are piling up over our resting fields:

Nearly all of our H2A visa workers are home in Guanajuato, Mexico, returned to their families and the 82 degree weather. Things sure do get quiet around here without them and they are missed greatly, but we are also so happy for them to return to their partners, children, and loved ones after 6 months here in the U.S.

The rest of us are shifting over to nearly all Warehouse work. The days consist of suiting up in our rain gear and washing and packing root crops, bagging up carrots for stores, and chopping cabbage for boxes (featured photo includes Ben, Steph and Juan Manuel washing your carrots!)

The repair shop is busy fixing, winterizing, and storing all of our equipment for a long break. After months of work the tractors get a good rest.

And the past few weeks we've also been working on extending our high tunnels for growing winter CSA greens and also earlier spring crops, which will help us to lengthen our CSA seasons in the years ahead.  We're hoping to eventually offer a year round CSA program in the years ahead!

Finally, we're also starting the process for field planning for next year's crop rotations! Already thinking about locations, acreages, and soil amendments for our crops in the summer of 2021, and so the seasons go!

I hope that all of you have a wonderful Thanksgiving and can eat some delicious meals with loved ones, whatever that looks like for each of us in the Covid Era. I hope and pray that the holiday season can bring joy and relaxation to all of you this year.

Thank you for all of your support!
