I think this week's rainbow was trying to tell me something... sometimes we get so wrapped up in everything that we forget to pause and smell the flowers. Farming often feels like a busy game of whackamole, constantly jumping from one thing going wrong to another. Troubleshooting the pumps, trying to remove all the diseased tomato leaves from the greenhouse, catching up on greenhouse seeding and field planting. We set a new record on Thursday this past week, I think it was 43 beds planted total! Go team, I can barely believe it myself but it's obvious when I walk around. The fall crops are almost all in, and growing well for the most part. This week's harvests are a little more plentiful, so there is more selection for you again when it comes to swapping or adding extras!
Sometimes I have to stop and remind myself that while the plants, crew and members are constantly needing attention, so do Stephanie and I. It's important to take time to care for ourselves too. So, here's to recognizing when we need a break... and finally taking it. We've been farming together for 9 years now, and a perfect excuse to take a day to relax and step back for some perspective. It's one of the hardest things to do, but if we don't stop to smell the flowers we might not keep going. I'm hoping some quiet time will help me remember all the wonderful stories I want to share with you this fall, of what we grow and how. If you've a topic or question you'd like me to tackle in my weekly ramblings, feel free to send it in for inspiration!
