Potato digging is definitely one of our dog's favourite tasks on the farm. Oddly enough for a dog, he's no good at digging... but he'll go from one potato digger to the next to snuggle up and sneak in for extra pets and belly rubs. We've barely started (three of 60 beds of potatoes) but his company definitely helps us get through the relatively long task of picking them out of the soil after the antique "digger" has pulled most to the upper layers of the soil. He lounges like a king on the freshly dug beds with the cool of the soil on his belly.
While he might be able to lounge during the day, he's always on duty and pulls long nights defending our garden. Typically deer and racoons are our biggest problems. He keeps them at bay, most of the time. He's a working farm dog and there would definitely be fewer vegetables without him, so here's to the defender of the night.
