While I try to keep personal bits out of my csa emails... I can't resist sharing this one. The whole crew had a wonderful chance to get dressed up and even do some dancing this weekend! I was a little distracted though and didn't get a group picture in all our finery. We had a small gathering of close friends and family on Saturday for our wedding. We got married in the back yard and celebrated 10 years together and our tenth garden. Our community came together to help from DJ to wine, tortillas to photos... simple and delicious. Heather and Stephanie are now wife and wife!
Back to the farm (we'll honeymoon in the winter) we're really excited to be bringing in our first potatoes this week. Our potatoes are usually planted a little later than others, because the potato beetles have their party early in the season. So we always wait and plant them a little later to get past the pest pressure. This worked really well in our favour this year as the July rains were perfect for helping them grow - for the first time in a few years we're actually harvesting nice big potatoes! We had to switch up a number of our potato varieties this year as our supplier had a hail storm that wiped out a lot of their stock last summer, but it's always fun to try something new ;) The first one out is Arizona, a general purpose yellow potato, which means we're going to be trying it out for fries, roasting, and salads to see how well it performs before I know what to recommend ;) Put them in your favourite potato recipe and let me know where you think it shines!
