It is always a lovely time of year when we get to discover the harvests that have been busy growing for us... we have lots of goodies coming ahead for the next few weeks. Our weekly bags go until October 27th, and we're busy setting up our winter season which runs monthly Nov-Mar (all members from the past year have a spot saved for them).
This week we're sending out our red potatoes, lettuces are back, our shallots were a beautiful harvest, and a round of beans. We have an early planting of carrots ready to share (we had tried lots more early but we lost them to the weed battle). Our winter carrots are growing well and should size up nicely in a month or so when we do the main harvest. Here on in we should have a steady supply of onions, potatoes and garlic. Our first batch of winter squashes are all safe curing, and the pumpkins are stashed away for thanksgiving. If anyone is wanting a favourite pumpkin treat before then, I've got some with visible imperfections that I've listed if you'd like! They won't hold for storage, but based on the ones I sliced open there's still lots of beautiful flesh to enjoy once you cut off the bad spot. Roast it up, and freeze it in 2c amounts (or whatever your favourite recipe uses). That smell of roasting pumpkin is magical. Speaking of which, if anyone wants to process beets we have an abundance of ones that got away from us nice large beets around a lb each that I'm sending out by the kilo if you love your beet juice, canning or freezing.
If we're sold out of eggplant, peppers, or melons I'll be updating those numbers again as the harvests come in, so check back on Sunday we may have more! I just don't want to offer them up till I know we have them and we didn't manage to get to them today ;)
