The start of April is always a busy time on the farm. As the frosty grip of winter gives was to the warm breath of spring we start dusting off equipment and madly trying to fix and upgrade our buildings before the rush of spring planting takes over in May. This April we are trying to get a few important fixtures finished.
We us the word “we,” but usually it is Stephanie doing the building and fixing ;) She’s been busy this week getting new seedling tables together. She is currently working on plans to upgrade our summer cooler to accommodate a larger cooling unit. Our hope is that the extra power will help us get your veggies to you in an even fresher state during the blistering heat of summer.
Next week she’ll be replacing the old doors on our propagation house with a new rollup garage door. One of the big wind storms last fall pulled the doors off their hinges and they’ve been on life support ever since. It’s an odd feeling to be excited for a garage door, but we are. No fancy things for these gals, a nice door is all they want!
Her last repair mission this month will be to replace the cover on our ten year old greenhouse. The windstorm that ripped the doors off of the propagation house also took the roof off the old greenhouse. It’s just a little thing compared with the big houses we’ve put up recently and will be helping us out as an equipment shop going forward. It just needs a roof first. Tools complain when they get rained on.
In a week or two everything will be up and running again: everything a little less squeaky and maybe a little more shinny.
