Beds are filling up quick here at the farm! We have been planting in the back garden all week. The picture above shows our pepper hill this year- planted with lots of super hot peppers we're growing for a couple of local hot sauce companies and our own sauces. Below that - pumpkins, dry beans, corn, cape gooseberries, kale, lettuce, brussel sprouts... On a small scale farm there's a lot of planning and rotating, puzzling and tetris going on. There's limited space with lots of different crops to juggle and fit in. That's part of the fun! We spend quite a bit of time in the winter crop planning and figuring out what we want to grow, but as the season goes on sometimes it's hard to stick to the plan. Weather, demand, and other things always play into the game. So we're always working on being flexible and going with the flow.
This week we've got lots of colorful veggies for the offering. Rainbow Chard, Rainbow Beets, and tri-color snap peas are brightening up the veggie boxes. As things warm up and we start to move towards summer there will be a lot more veggies to choose from. Our summer squash is starting to blossom and we're almost ready to plant the second succession. That being said, there should now be more items to swap and trade. So, don't forget to check you email to customize your shares before Wednesday morning.
Thank you all for supporting locally grown!!!
Stay strong and plant on,
Kelly & Patrick
