Good evening everyone;
I am sorry to be so late in getting the harvest to you. I attended my brother's oldest daughter's wedding in Chicago this weekend. It has been a long time since I have seen most of my family, with COVID concerns being a part of all of our lives for well over a year now. As I am sure it has been the same for you, it was wonderful to reconnect and feel my family presence again.
I am not closing the customization period for the early week deliveries until Tuesday am, since this is reaching you late.
We find ourselves at Week 19! For some of you, this will be your last share. We so appreciate all of your support of our farm, and local organic agriculture. It has been our honor to grow for you! We hope you will return for our 2021 season! If this is your last week, we would like for you to return for week 20, because we will have a sample of our microgreens, a new product for us, and if you order the large Fiddlekraut cabbages, you will pick it up that week.
Members who have their last pick up at week 20 will also receive the sample of our microgreens, and will get the Fiddlekraut if ordered.
I will be sending out a survey Monkey survey to see who wants the big cabbages. Again, these are 5-8 lbs and very large cone shaped. The seed is from Uprising Seeds in Bellingham. This cabbage is historically the preferred sauerkraut cabbage, and is very sweet for other cabbages purposes as well. As mechanized harvest developed, cone shaped cabbage fell out of favor for the round cabbages.
Since it is cabbage season, I have even more cabbage news. This week you will be offered a very dense, on the large size round cabbage, Passat. The description in High Mowing seeds says that this delicious cabbage gets even sweeter with storage, and they are right! We love this late season cabbage, deep green leaves, delicious in any cabbage or lettuce recipe! We store cabbage in a plastic or mesh vegetable bag in our fridge or cooler, and it lasts for months!
Leeks are also new additions this week! They did not get as big as you see in the some grocery stores, but they are tasty. Additional tender Asian Cabbage that eats like lettuce is again featured, as well as arugula, bok choy and Asian greens. We are really enjoying the fall greens on the farm. Our daily work lunches are made from a tasty variety of these greens!
Again, thank you for your continued support!
Have a wonderful week.
Claudia, Jim, Madeline and Emily
