Welcome to week 14 of the CSA. After this week, there will be 2 more boxes for the bi-weekly shares and 4 more boxes for the weekly shares.
The farm is holding steady this week with the dry weather we’ve had. We will be watering this weekend for sure with the high temperatures. The pastures still have a lush look to them, and so the sheep are grazing happily on tall juicy grasses and alfalfa. We do have a butcher appointment coming up at the end of September, so we may be able to offer lamb cuts at the last two weeks of the CSA and market. Stay tuned.
The end of summer slides into fall as we begin to offer leeks and Brussels sprouts. The blackbirds are gathering in large flocks, and we’ve been enjoying their murmurations. But the trees are still green, and there are excellent watermelons to be found in the fields. Harvest time is one of our favorite times of the year. New this week are miniature snack peppers, red orange and yellow. Also new is garlic which will keep for weeks or months even. We are packing them in ¼ lbs which is about 4 small bulbs.
We are hopeful for this last 5 weeks of the CSA. There will be more potatoes, carrots, bags of onions, kale, lettuce, and much more.
