Gravel Road Farm News, July 23 2022The flower stand has had some success. Thank you all for spreading the word. Our daughter, (age 17) is making small $10 bouquets to sell at our roadside stand. The jars are recycled nut butter jars and jelly jars. Donations are welcome- there is a crate for them in the flower stand.
SHELL PEAS! This week we have shell peas instead of snap peas. DON'T EAT the PODS! Open them up and eat the peas, and compost the shell.
This week, we are adding blueberries to the CSA boxes from our friends in Iola, John and Mary. They have a stand at the farmers market for a couple of weeks until the fruits are done. They have a bumper crop right now, so buy an extra pound if you want!
Carrots are new this week. We put all the different sizes together in the bunches, because that is how they grow in the rows. There will be a gap in the lettuce supply during the heat of the summer. The green butterhead is the favorite of the deer, and the leaf lettuces just go to seed when it gets this hot. Scallions are out, fresh bulb onions are in. You can eat the top of the onion!
The flowers are looking amazing as usual. We appreciate everyone’s support of the flower subscriptions. There are a few extra bouquets available each week to order as extras.
