Summer is really ramping up on the farm! U-pick opens this weekend! Tomatoes are nearing readiness - more cherries this week, and I'm putting money on slicers for next weeks shares. The crew spent a big portion of today perfecting the heirlooms, and while we still have lots more trellising to keep up with, I will say, I think this is the best looking batch of tomatoes we've ever had - we've just got to wait a little longer for the late summer dam to break and it will be all tomatoes all the time (I'm most excited about BLTs!).
The U-Pick is officially open! We'll be open to CSA member visitors from 9AM - 5PM Saturdays and Sundays until the flowers and veggies are gone. Our U-pick is currently a do-it yourself soft of experience - it's rustic and we like it that way. You'll get an email with all the instructions shortly! Or refer back to last week's newsletter.
Currently available for picking:
-raspberries (first planting is winding down, second planting is just getting started, but picking was quiet last weekend, so fast hand can leave with lots)
-Snapdragons - Zinnias -Rudbekia
-Amaranth -Statice -Cosmos - marigolds
-Edible flowers -sunflowers (just getting going) -so many more!
-herbs
Bring your own jars and containers. We'll have a hose available for filling jars.
Soon, we'll have cherry tomatoes, snacking peppers, pole beans, sour gherkins, and more, but the veggies aren't quite ready yet!
Part of our crew takes break between packing shares
We are officially in a "moderate drought." Ugh.
Also I found this really goofy picture of Eric from our first or second year of Winter shares when we had to rent a space from another farm and pack all our shares at night.
