Farm Happenings for week of November 3, 2020

Posted on October 28th, 2020 by Harvie Admin

Who says you can't eat local into the cold months? We are excited to add a collection of new products that feature locally grown ingredients. Think of it as a farm in a jar! We will gladly take any and all feedback regarding your experience as you try these items. We hope they serve as an appetizer for some of the foods you can expect to see during the upcoming winter farm shares. Our plan is to feature some of these fine businesses in the coming weeks.

Winter Farm Shares We hope you received two emails from us with details about the process and opportunities for participating in the new winter farm and butcher box shares. The auto-renew window will be November 11-18. Watch for emails about that. Here is the link to see if you are set to opt-in or opt-out. In case you didn't receive our first 2 emails about winter shares, here are links:

Hydroponic Greens Not only are we adding more jarred goods for the cold seasons, we are also glad to now have hydroponic greens available too. Fifth Season is a Pittsburgh company that will be able to provide us with fresh greens throughout the winter. How cool is that? Don't worry, we will still get as many veggies from our soil farms as we can. In fact, you're going to love this week's veggies. Still so many options to choose from!

More Pork Our butcher box members have been asking for more pork, and we are glad to say that we have more to offer from Jubilee Hilltop Ranch. Look for Uncured Ham Steak, Pork Hocks, and Breakfast Sausage Patties this week. Plus we have a bigger inventory of bacon!

Cheese of the Week This week our cheese comes from Riverview Dairy in Emlenton, PA. They are an Amish goat farm that makes really nice chevre. For the cheese shares, we are going to feature their Garlic and Herb Chevre. We think you'll find plenty of ways to use it. Might we suggest that it pairs well with Mediterra sourdough and any of our new locally made jams.

Misc.

  • Remember that we are still offering the 50/50 match Donate-A-Box program. We appreciate your participation in helping to share food with those who need it most.
  • We processed the fist half of the turkeys from Clarion River Organics. Watch for info on those coming in the next week.
  • Did you notice that you can now buy a 10 lb box of ground beef even if you don't have a butcher box share? Look for it in the Extras section.

Happy Halloween! Stay safe and eat well,

Neil Stauffer, on behalf of Harvie Farms Pittsburgh

ps--We added an extra hour of customization time for tomorrow. Cutoff is Friday 1pm. Hope that helps!
