Farm Box Happenings for Week of March 1st, 2021

Posted on February 25th, 2021 by Derek Dumont

Meet the Putt Family - citrus growers from Bakersfield, California. Each year, the Clarion River Organics community supports the Putt Family by purchasing two large orders of their citrus. Since citrus doesn't grow in our region, we thought it would provide a great opportunity to join CRO in supporting this small, family farm on the West Coast. Plus, this citrus is packed with robust flavor and grown organically! We hope you find the addition of sustainably grown citrus to be a pleasant surprise, it will surely provide a pop of color to your Farm Box!

Here at Harvie Farms Pittsburgh, we highly prioritize sourcing PA grown produce. During our first winter season at HFP, it's proved to be quite a challenge to secure local produce in high volume, on certain occasions. We continue to find innovative ways to be ahead of the curve each week with our purchasing techniques and work closely with our local sources to provide you all the best selection possible. Spring is right around the corner and we're all excited for things to be looking a little different outside!

Speaking of new looks, you may notice that customizing your box will look different this week! The Harvie tech team has been working hard over the recent months to redesign the experience of shopping at Harvie Farms Pittsburgh. The new customization design will feel similar to other online shopping experiences and we hope it will make your customizing even more enjoyable! We have created a help document, which can be found here.

For those of you getting an add on share:

Coffee Add-on Share: Commonplace Coffee's All Day Dark Roast.  This is a straightforward, diner-style coffee that brings you back to when coffee was just coffee. Sipping and making memories with friends. Profile notes include a dark chocolate, smokiness with a full body.

Bread Add-On Share: Mediterra Bakehouse's Farm Pain au Levain is considered the quintessential French sourdough bread. It’s honeycomb crumb and delicate tang make it very versatile. The Farm bread is the perfect complement to a soup or stew, and it makes a delicious sandwich.

Be safe and eat well!
