Handmade bagels made with organic ingredients- it doesn't get better than that. Farmer x Baker is a woman-owned, Pittsburgh-based, local organic restaurant & market with a Farmer-Forward menu.  Our purchasing team has been searching for months to find some Pittsburgh bagels to fill your boxes and we couldn't be more excited to bring new producer, Farmer x Baker, on board.

Farmer x Baker Founder, Jen Urich, is doing some excellent things in the Pittsburgh Food system. Jen is also owner of Root & Heart Farm and in her farming she follows principles of local, biodynamic, and ethically organic farming. Check out their website, or give them a follow to learn more. Even better, try one of their everything or plain bagels in your box this week!

A Note From Harvie CEO, Simon Huntley

I know a lot of us are thinking about the changes we want to see in 2022 and I hope you consider making Harvie an even bigger part of your food life in the New Year. We believe that Harvie is the best way to buy groceries in Pittsburgh and can become your everyday grocery solution.

I personally made a commitment in 2021 to eat as locally as possible. In July I switched to buying 100% of my groceries from Harvie (except for a few things I can’t get that I’ll buy from Giant Eagle). This has been a huge change in my life in the quality of food I’m eating, the way my body feels, the food my boys are eating, and the way I’m supporting a whole new food system.

It’s simple: the best way to eat healthy and local is to have great food each week in your refrigerator.

Below are a few things you’ve helped to make a reality for your local food system in 2021. We’ve come a long way in the past twelve months, and I look forward to what we’ll build together in 2022.

  • You are supporting 175 local farmers and artisans. We put over $1.8 million back into the hands of local farms and artisans in 2021 and expect to do even more this year.
  • We have increased the number of items each week from about 150 to almost 500 and growing, so you can get more of your food from Harvie and our trusted farms and artisans.
  • Sustainability is an important part of the food system change we’re creating together. You play a critical role in that by allowing us to reuse your Harvie packaging. Please keep returning your box, liners, and ice packs to us.
  • Through our partnership with 412 Food Rescue, Harvie donated 17,249 pounds of food to families in need in 2021—that’s 15,681 total meals. Your donated shares helped to make this possible.
  • Our Facebook community has grown to over 1,300 members and if you’re not already part of it, I invite you to join. It’s a space where members share their favorite recipes, ask questions, and encourage each other as we all work towards better living through good food. You can join here.

I would love your feedback: how would you like to see Harvie change so you can put more of your grocery budget towards local farmers and artisans?
