Two of the most frustrating challenges we dealt with in 2021 was water and weeds. Seems like that is every farmers issue year in and year out. We probably laid out over 10,000 linear feet of irrigation lines last year. It kicked our butts putting it in and pulling it out at the end of the year. With a different farm layout this year, and the help of mother nature watering our crops has been a much easier task. We continue to heavily drip irrigate and use sprinklers to supplement. We have been able to keep the weed pressure at bay by using a combination of woven plastic mulch, cultivation, straw, cover crop and manually pulling out one weed at a time.
This week we feature Joi Choi, Snap Peas, Romaine Lettuce and Basil. Zucchini is here but at a limited quantity week by week. We anticipate having some cucumbers next week.
Just a reminder in case you did not notice the change to our CSA this year. For 2022, we downsized to a 14 week CSA consisting of two 7 week sessions with a 1 week break midseason for the farm team. The first session runs from June 22nd-August 3rd. The farm team will break the week of August 10th. Our second session will start August 17th-September 28th. Let us know if you have any questions.
