Meet Karen and Annie; Two of our amazing Oak Spring volunteers. We are piled in my old green Chevy farm truck in this pic to head across the street to harvest one thing or another.
Karen is a CSA member, Annie is a long time friend of mine. She said to me the other day 'Remember years ago when we stood on your deck and spun greens in your little home salad spinner?' We both laughed out loud and shuttered at the thought of having to do that today!
These days we spin up to 80 pounds of lettuce and spring mix most Mondays for CSA and restaurants!
WE have grown and we are growing-thank you for joining us on this (literally) fruitful path.
Well it's getting hot, the bugs are here to take their share of the crops and the veggies may not be as picture perfect as they are earlier in the season. Tomatoes are teasing us, white eggplants are ripening in the tunnel (white eggplant are more tender and sweet than traditional eggplant-do try them!) and the peppers are big and green in the tunnels waiting to ripen. it's the first of the green beans this week-YUMMY. Fennel is prime; we'd like you to try it, you won't see it again until the fall. Loads of squash and cucumbers once again!
come on out to a market to say hello if you're ever in the area-we'd love to see you!
Bon Appetit!
