Hello Farm-ily!
We are 'Up & Rollin' like the Mississippi All Stars say...am I dating myself?
Spring seeds are started, high tunnel tomatoes are germinated, new beds of arugula, spicy mix, lettuce and scallions are sprouting-It's almost Spring!
This week in addition to our winter veggie selection of arugula, chard, kale, Hakurei turnips, beets and spinach we have cheese, meat, apple butter, hot sauce, and limited eggs.
Grab a winter share for Tuesday delivery at both JBGBs, Grapes & Grains in Timonium, and here at the farm.
We have a new shipment of 100% grass fed ground beef from our neighbors at Shady Spring Farm in Parkton.
A favorite recipe I have for ground beef is meatballs.
I add sautéed minced garlic, onion, celery & kale, a cube of basil pesto (from my frozen summer stash), diced or minced red peppers (also from the freezer), oatmeal and hemp hearts, egg for binder, salt & pepper, oregano and any other favorite dried herbs to a pound of ground beef and BAM Superfood Meatballs.
Another plentiful item this week is hakurei turnips.
During my mentorship at Calvert's Gift Farm ten years ago in the Beginning Farmer Training Program, I was pretty sure I didn't like turnips... but I tried some steamed with butter and quickly found out -- these are NOT your Grandma's turnips!
