Please mark your calendar now for our Chili FEASTival Sunday, October 23rd 2pm.
This party is for YOU, our members, who make this farm possible- able to grow nutritious, fresh food for local families and build community along the way.
We want you here, we want to meet you, see you again, connect....Let us entertain you and the kids for an afternoon on this beautiful, small working farm. Come get inspired and see the how and why of Oak Spring.
Bring a chair and a dish to pass AND chili out for an afternoon with us.
You'll be glad you did.
September flies by, right?
With everyone settled back in school and the excitement of summer is over, a more predictable routine settles down around the farm.
We are still harvesting 3 days per week but as new seedings and plantings slow down our focus turns to winter bed preparation and cover crops.
Oats, rye, forage radish, winter peas, hairy vetch and clover are among the cover crops we choose to build organic matter in the soil, prevent soil erosion and help control weeds.
We are still harvesting potatoes. There are still some French fingerlings-pictured above and they are my favorite to roast whole and serve as the centerpiece to a meal, not just a side dish. Many of you have had some already... Red, yellow and fingerling potatoes are back on the menu this week.
There is more celery too. I really like celery roasted in a fall vegetable medley with carrots and potatoes, winter squash and fresh herbs. Check out the FB Farm-ily page for great recipe ideas and join our next challenge. There is a prize drawing just for participating!
Fruit share this week is paw paws or gala apples.
Last call: There are some pawpaws available as an extra purchase this is the last week!
