This week we experience the Fall equinox.
The autumnal equinox signals the shift between summer and fall seasons.
The first official day of fall will arrive at 8:04 p.m. Sept. 22 for the Northern Hemisphere, according to the Old Farmer's Almanac.
What better way to celebrate fall than with some winter squash and sweet potatoes! We are growing Murasaki Japanese and all purple sweet potatoes this year. In addition, Siwik Family Farms will supply us with the traditional orange Beauregard sweet potatoes.
There is more salad mix this week and bigger bunches of mustard greens for your braising pleasure.
Please take a look at my blog this week; it gives you some more of the story on how I truly became a farmer. And it may inspire you to take a deeper look at a small but mighty local organization that supports local sustainable agriculture.
Ive realized my farming became a reality through the Beginner Farmer Training Program.
I'm inviting you to join me for Future Harvest CASA's first annual Chesapeake Food Shed Feast at Starbright Farm in White Hall, MD.
Consider spending Sunday afternoon, September 25, with me celebrating local agriculture and the organization that helps keep the Chesapeake local food system thriving.
