Reminder Plant Sale is May 5th 10am-1pm.
Gardening series with Lisa begins May 4th 3:30pm
It's been a busy couple of weeks on the farm. Planting, seeding, spring cleaning, fixing hoses & equipment, rebuilding and cleaning out the chicken coop, and rebuilding & repairing deer fence. Now we are waiting to see if we have more cold nights in April then we'll start to plant a whole greenhouse's worth of transplants.
Then we will be busy for quite a few days (or weeks) getting all of the plants in the ground.
We had a frost early this week and it zapped a lot of our strawberries.... While we do cover most everything we plant in the spring with a special cover to keep the plants protected from the cold, the strawberries were planted last fall and it was just too much to cover them all.
So now we have the laborious chore of going through each and every plant and pulling off the zapped flowers (you can tell because the center turns black).
Ah small scale organic farming, I signed up for this, right?
Last night the low was 36F. Even the tomatoes planted out in the unheated greenhouse get chilly. Next week the lowest night time temperature is 59 degrees and Monday will be 85 during the day. Nothing like going from winter to summer in a few days.
