Whole Season Share #3 Enjoy Abundant, Safe Harvests

Posted on June 7th, 2024 by Lisa Duff

The weather is beautiful, and our produce is abundant. We are grateful for your compliments on the quality of our shares—thank you!

This week's harvest includes:

  • Cucumbers
  • Snow peas
  • Carrots
  • Salad mix
  • Arugula
  • Baby zucchini
  • Kohlrabi
  • Baby onions
  • Garlic scapes
  • Beets
  • Pink & purple radishes
  • Raspberries (for fruit share)
  • The final strawberries and snap peas of the season

Yep, the harvest is short for many of these super seasonal items.

Important Reminder: Always wash ALL your head lettuce and salad mixes with a vinegar bath (1 part vinegar to 3 parts water). Detailed instructions are below.

Coliform bacteria live in soil. Lettuce is one of the most common foods to have traces of Coliform bacteria.

To ensure safety, please always wash all produce intended for raw consumption, no matter the source. If you are immune-compromised, elderly, very young, or pregnant, it is especially important to wash greens, particularly lettuce, in a vinegar bath.

Proper Directions for Cleaning Your Vegetables:

  • Washing fruits and vegetables with vinegar kills up to 98% of bacteria on the surface.
  • Use 1 part white vinegar to 3 parts water for your vinegar bath.
  • Soak fruits and veggies in the vinegar bath for 2 minutes.

Thank you for taking the necessary precautions to ensure your food is safe.

We value your membership and strive to provide you with safe, nutrient-dense, high-quality organic produce. I stand behind all the food we grow here at Oak Spring Farm.

Cheers,

Lisa
