As September continues our weather sure has changed... cooler and wetter. With this comes all our Fall expectations! The big push to Harvest all goodies we have planted, school homework for the kiddos, and the anticipation of what will Thanksgiving gatherings look like this year. Whether a farmer or a home gardener... congratulations on your efforts to grow your own food this season. It has been a challenging one.
This week on the farm we have been working on our own new kitchen! I am so excited that we will have the space to bake breads, sweets, make preserves, canning and most exciting... make soup! Creme of Celery was one of my Dad's favourites. What is your favourite soup? Send me a message or share a recipe. I'd love to add it to next weeks Farm Happenings.
Thank you to our Thursday Delivery members that responded to the surprise in the bag question last week. It was a watermelon radish. These radishes are spicy and a touch sweet at the same time; with such beautiful colour. They are also a great option for winter storage if you love radishes. They are firmer then regular radish and can keep for a few months. Tomorrow our high-school student (his last week with us) will pull five names - they will each receive a jar of local (Sharon, Ontario) honey collected by our beekeeper James Murray.
Our Friday members will get their "surprise veggie question" opportunity this week, watch for our email on Friday.
And finally... we have an exciting announcement coming up next week... A fall Harvest Pop-up Market. Watch for our announcements.
Enjoy your week!
