Hey there,
It is back to school, but more importantly, it is fall fair season. I grew up outside of a small, rural town 2.5 hours south west of here, and even though this town was 1600 people they had a great fair. Rides, exhibits, shows, demolition derby and horseshoe tournament. Unfortunately, it has become smaller, and with less agricultural animal shows then it had in the past, they have been going since 1858 and though there have been so many societal, economic, and technological changes, we can still go to the fair and marvel at the timeless skills and talents of locals, beautiful quilts, jams, pies, needle work, hay, grain, veggies, etc.
I would encourage anyone who can, to try and support your local fairs and celebrations. The volunteers who put on these events work really hard to pull the community together to have some fun and celebrate and recognize its residents. Our kids get a real kick out of the fair too (mostly the rides), and have been putting in a little work for the kids' craft section, painting rocks, lego machines, and paper plate sunflowers. There is something for everyone.
