Welcome to Week 5 of the Rivendale CSA. We are especially excited for our new workplace pick up locations that are joining us for the first time this week. Please feel free to search the archives of our newsletters if you want to catch up on what's been happening at the farm this past month or so.
This past week was once again dominated by rain. But Farmer Susanna and her field crew are doing their best--through the mud and storms--to continue their routines or planting, tending, and harvesting. Now that we're into July, the list of produce available is quite long with new items each week. We love that you get to have input into what you receive in your CSA box. Don't forget that you can edit and swap your box items until 8pm Sunday night.
While much of our time is spent in the fields, we also continue to manage our 1/4 acre greenhouse. Inside, we currently have bountiful cucumbers and the beginning of what should be a great cherry tomato season. But we also grow some unique items in the summertime like ginger and turmeric. In the picture you can see Darin planting the fresh turmeric into furrows. They will grow in the heat and be ready for harvest in late fall. Perhaps we'll be able to offer ginger and/or turmeric in the final weeks of the CSA season.
Don't forget, we are watching for your hashtag #rivendaleeats posts on social media. Share what you're cooking with us!
Stay dry,
Farmer Neil, On behalf of the crew
ps--At most locations you are welcome to flatten and return your empty/clean CSA box. We will pick it up and reuse it as appropriate. Thanks!
