Excited for the first Farm Share!

Posted on February 9th, 2020 by Annie Moore

Hi and welcome to the first week of the River Queen Greens Farm Share! We're your farmers, Cheryl and Annie, and we're thrilled to be delivering boxes of our produce to you this week. We've been growing veggies in New Orleans for about two years, and have always had running a Farm Share as a goal. Now that we've added a second growing site across the river, we finally feel ready to offer consistent quantities and enough diversity to make a really great Farm Share. We hope you agree!

This spring season has been rewarding and challenging. You may hove noticed, there's been a lot of rain. At our Bywater location, which has very sandy soil, rain hasn't really been an issue, other than eroding our beds. Things dry out so quickly, we have to water a day after multiple inches of rain. At our West Bank location, the opposite is true. The soil is dense clay, which retains moisture and doesn't seem to need irrigation. But boy does it stay muddy and floody for days. In our first two seasons of growing out there, we've seen droughts and flooding, but things seem to want to grow despite the weather, and for the most part, they grow beautifully.

We hope you enjoy the bounty from both our farm sites over the next few months as our spring season progresses. Please let us know if there's anything you'd like to see us do as we launch this new chapter!

All the best,

Cheryl and Annie

PS - DON'T FORGET TO BRING YOUR OWN BAGS!
