We've settled into a cold weather routine here at Sleepy G. Mornings are dark and cold so we plan indoor work for the first couple of hours until the sun is up and the soil thaws. Digging root vegetables out of frozen soil is not glamorous work but must be done! Washing and water work is always done in the afternoon when the harvest is in and the sun is out. Mother Nature was not kind to us the past few weeks but despite that, we have been working hard everyday to get as much as the harvest in the cellar a possible. The good news is the weather next week looks fantastic! We are expecting warm and dry conditions to finish the harvest on the final days in 2020 with our farm team.
We have very recently purchased some beautiful certified organic apples from an orchardist in Thornbury Ontario. Our good friend worked as a picker at the orchard this fall and helped us connect with Richard and bring some of his harvest to Thunder Bay to share with you. This winter we will have his organic apples available as a swap item or purchase through Harvie. Just look for them during the customization period for each share. In addition, we are offering our 1lb packages of ground beef! Raised here at Sleepy G and processed in Murillo, our beef is flavourful and versatile. It's also available through Harvie each week. Please note that extras must be paid for by credit card.
Finally, we have secured our winter pickup location in Thunder Bay. We have rented the CLE Cardinal room (in the Coliseum) for the winter season. The entrance is between the gymnastics building and the Coliseum. Please look for our sign. In addition, the Thunder Bay Country Market is operating during the same time frame on Wednesdays (3 to 6pm) so you can access other local or handmade items on your trip over.
