I’m excited to report that our garlic is finally ready to harvest!
Garlic harvest is one of my favorite farming activities of the year and for the past 10 years we have made a day of it by inviting members to come out and be part of the harvest. We have about 13,000 bulbs to pull out of the ground, clean and hang to cure – it's a big project! We will get started this Saturday, August 14th at 9 am. Feel free to join us anytime in the morning or afternoon. You can bring your kids for sure – it will be fun for them to get their hands in the soil and see where food comes from. We love dogs but please leave them at home so we don’t need to police them in the garden.
I will have some coffee, juice and light snacks available but if you plan to stay for an extended period of time please bring your own lunch. Can you please let me know if you plan to join and how many people will be in your party so I can plan refreshments accordingly?
The forecast looks hot so please bring lots of water and dress appropriately. A pair of work gloves or gardening gloves may be useful but are not necessary.
Here is a map to the farm (Tamara Ranch is the listing on google maps) and here are directions:
Take 40th Ave south from Red Deer. Turn east (left) on TWP 372. TWP 372 is a gravel road. Travel about 4 km. On the north side of the road (left) you will see a driveway that says Tamara Ranch. That's us. On google maps it is labelled as Range Road 270 A but is actually our driveway. Keep right at the fork in the driveway. Look for other vehicles parked in the pasture. Come toward the greenhouses and you will see us out in the field.
I hope to see you this weekend!
Your farmer,
Mike
