Hi Folks, another smooth pickup with most boxes returned. Thanks so much! Hard to believe we're halfway through the CSA. Luckily we had time to clean up the snow before the pickups. Some interesting weather at the end of the week but warming temperatures on Friday. Don't forget that due to the holiday, Saturday pickup will be on Friday, and Sunday pickup will be on Saturday.
You might have noticed that the potato varieties had another variety subbed in this week. We weren't happy with the quality of the original selection so we had to do some substitutions. The extreme drought caused surface blemishes on our potatoes and sweet potatoes. The insides are fine, just the skin looks bad. Both those crops were in fields that were difficult to irrigate so they didn't get all the water they needed to look pretty!
This week we're adding some new items: frozen blueberries and strawberries, Gilfeather turnips and mesclun mix. We'll also have most of the other usual suspects. Don't forget to customize your share before Tuesday, 8 am if you want to make adjustments to this weeks selections. Once the swap period is over, the pick lists are generated and it's too late for changes.
In the coming days we'll be mulching next year's strawberries with straw and winding up Christmas tree sales at our Elysian Hills Tree Farm. We still have some nice pre-cut trees and wreaths available. It's also time to begin the flower and vegetable seed orders. The winter pace is a bit easier but the show must go on! Hope everyone has a peaceful and enjoyable holiday.
