This is your PSA to set your clocks forward tonight! Back when I was working a day job and farming only on nights and weekends, daylight savings time was the change I was really looking forward to every spring. More daylight hours after regular work meant I could do more of the necessary spring work. Maybe you feel the same way!
The wet cool weather has put a stop to some of the outdoor work, but work in the greenhouses is moving forward as usual. In fact, we're preparing to plant cherry tomatoes in the ground this week (in a heated greenhouse of course). These early plants should be yielding their first fruits early in the summer CSA season, sometime in May. Our transplant seeding schedule has ramped up to spring levels with 50-75 flats going into the greenhouse every week to transplant either outside or in the high tunnels. Spring is just around the corner and we want to be ready. As soon as things dry out again, we'll be out there planting away.
The greens are growing so nicely now. We hope you are enjoying the greens. This time of year they're in their prime. The komatsuna, bok choy and chard are in particular abundance.
