Happy belated St. Patty's Day and hello the first official days of spring! It's always an exciting time of year and even more so with our daughter Daisy turning 3 on 3/20! Crazy thing is my wife 2 or other sisters also had a kid on 3/20! Wild I know!
So, some sad news from the farm. This past week we had a malfunction in our propagation greenhouse and the heater did not turn on when Sunday nights temps dropped down to 22F. Extremely sad, but it exposes an area of weakness and we will have better systems in place to ensure it doesn't happen again. This experience also showed us what varieties of plants can handle a little bit of cold air and which ones can't.
We have 2 more horseradish products from Holy Schmitt's; Mustard Horseradish which is their 2nd most popular product and the Cocktail Sauce. This is prime season for horseradish as its being dug out of the ground as we speak.
We also have Locally caught Striped Bass this week. I had a few people ask what is the difference between Fluke and Flounder. I know they are kind of the same but I found the perfect quote: "All fluke are flounder but not all flounder are fluke"
Generally speaking, left-side up flounder are flukes, and right-side up flounders are called flounders. That sounds easy enough to remember, but it gets worse. Flukes are also called “summer flounder,” and flounder, or right-side fish, are called “winter flounder.” Confusing I know.
Enjoy the week and enjoy the goodies!
