Farm Happenings for September 21, 2021

Posted on September 17th, 2021 by John Zilnicki

Hope you had a great week!  We are starting to put cover crops on some parts of the farm that are done for the year.  The cover crop will serve many beneficial purposes from weed control, erosion control, nutrient building, green manure, and so much more.  Its our way of, pulling the covers up in bed, and saying, see you the spring soil.

If your a vegetable lover, this is your season.  We finally have broccoli, however, when the broccoli was developing at a critical point in the field, the heat and humidity a few weeks ago wrecked havoc on the plants.  The plants went into 'shock' and produced more leaves then normal.  The heads are a little funky looking, but still delicious! It just shows us, that even hardy plants are effected by unusual weather patterns.

Hope you have a great weekend, and enjoy those goodies!

Your Farmer,

John

PS: keep up the good work returning those boxes, liners, and ice packs!
