Farm Happenings for October 22, 2024

Posted on October 18th, 2024 by John Zilnicki

We are past the halfway point of October and a lot of the farm fields are coming to the end and are being prepared for the 'winter slumber,' and planted with cover crops.  Its a slow push for us in harvesting the potatoes, besides for the typical breakdowns (you better be following on Instagram @zilnickifarms) to see all the behind the scenes action on the farm, we are working through a major drought.  My father can not remember a fall where farmers had to irrigate the potatoes before harvest, until right now.  We normally start to winterize some of the irrigation equipment at this time, but they are in full blast right now.

For the members who got oysters last week, how good we're they?  Yes, they are a little tricky to shuck, but with free oyster knife and instructional pamphlet on how to properly shuck, it made life way easier!

Enjoy this gorgeous weekend as temps climb back up into the 70's and not a cloud in the sky.

Your farmer,

John
