We hope you all have been enjoying this fantastic weather! I know we've been loving this sunshine, and the veggies have been too. So much so, that our partners at Acme Greenhouses may have cherry tomatoes in as soon as a week! We'll be sure to list them here as soon as they're ready. Fresh English cucumbers won't be far behind.
We'll be getting more product in from Barnacle in a few weeks, including more Campfire Salsa and a new flavor of kelp pickles...curry! We won't have any pasta this week, but don't worry, it will be back soon. We have plenty of your favorites though, including granola from Elevated Oats, fresh eggs, spring mix, basil, sprouts and chocolate. And please note, we've consolidated Thursday pickups to just one time slot from 3 - 5pm.
If you're a meat eater, I'm sure you've noticed the freezers at your grocery store aren't as full as usual. A drop in supply of meat from the lower 48 has increased the demand dramatically from local farmers in Alaska as well. We've pulled most of our meat products from the Farm Stand to ensure we have enough for those of you that ordered Meat Shares for this summer. (Just one of the many benefits of becoming a member--first dibs on local products!)
Although the pandemic in and of itself is terrible, one good thing to come out of it is the rise in community support. We've seen that both out of necessity (like with local meat) and out of sheer goodwill (like the so many of you that are purchasing produce for donation each week). Either way, it reminds us that whether in a pandemic or not, we all benefit from sticking together and supporting one another. And I sincerely hope and believe that this sense of community and supporting local will remain and continue to spread after all of this has passed.
