Apples are finally ripening up, just as we head into September. We're working with two orchardists this year -- Don Berberich and Doug Ott. Orchards in Alaska are different than the large commercial orchards in the lower 48. Our producers have dozens of varieties, all with their own best use -- from sauce making, to fresh eating, to baking -- based on their flavor and texture. We'll be offering several of these different varieties over the coming weeks, so if you're an apple lover, get ready for making pies, sauce and cider! Or my favorite, apple butter!
