I somehow overlooked tomatoes as an item when setting up our farm products!?? Funny, all we do is think about tomatoes all year.***Want eggs every week? Solstice means the heavy harvest time of carrots (now), garlic (soon), and the small patch of Irish potatoes (later.) Solstice is the longest day of the year with beautiful golden evening light. Long days mean the plants are experience more days per 24 hours...maybe 1.3 of sunlight per 24 hours. The annual plants have a goal to flower strongly at solstice and set seeds, but we want to make sure our carrots are all about those juicy, sweet roots, so it is time to dig them up and store the sweetness in our walk in veggie fridge. The fragrant greens are a farmer's aromatherapy as we pop the leaves and stems off to store the carrots roots in a pristine state of juicy crunchiness.
