Avian Flu & Visiting our Farm
- Avian flu is a virus that causes death in poultry & wild birds.
- It is a very serious virus that can result in us having to put down our entire flock if they catch it.
- Our farm is now in the zone where avian flu has been wreaking havoc.
- We ask that if you have birds at home, have contact with birds ie. vet's office, walks by a pond with birds etc.... that you please DO NOT COME TO OUR FARM.
- If you need to pick up a share we need to arrange a safe pick up time at the end of our driveway.
- Please email us if you may be in this situation.
- We thank you immensely for your cooperation.
Chickens on pasture!
- We have a new breed of meat birds! Rustic Rangers
- Besides the cool name, these birds have many great qualities;
- They have better genes, which helps for healthy growth.
- They graze really well which makes the great pasture chickens!
- They have a fun colour, we are used to white chickens but the new breed is a brown/black colour.
Watch for lamb cuts this Summer!
- Our butcher at Windcrest is going to be raising lambs for us this Summer.
- We have too much to do and can't add them to our operation.
- They share the same values as us so we are happy to partner with them to bring you high-quality lamb cuts to add to your shares.
- Starting June 2022.
U-Pick Flower Opportunities this Summer!
- We are making our first attempt at growing u-pick flowers.
- We have got the seed and will be planting in the coming weeks.
- *IF* we are able to grow some wildflowers, we will be organizing u-pick days. SO, cross your fingers for us and hopefully, we will see our first u-pick flower days this summer.
Pricing Increase;
- We will be raising prices for our items for the Summer.
- We secured as much as we could in regards to supplies in the winter, however, not everything could be locked in.
- Price increasing are correlated with;
- Fuel pricing Increasing (Diesel is very bad right now. This is used for equipment)
- Fertilizer Pricing Increasing (We are using every bit of animal droppings we swear!)
- Trucking Cost Increasing
- Butcher Cost Increasing
- Packing Cost Increasing
- Seed Cost Increasing
- Labour Cost Increasing
- Adjustments for the produce boxes may look like 1 less item available each week (normally 8 items weekly, may move down to 7).
- We are still discussing this.
- We appreciate your support of our family farm & we will continue to be as transparent with pricing.
