D&V Organics CSA Week 26
The days keep moving farther into Fall, but the weather sure doesn't feel like it! We are pretty surprised by the warm, Summer-like temperatures we've been having over the past week. As the days shorten and more typical Fall temperatures set in, we expect the crops to nearly stop growing. This time of year, once everything has reached maturity, it sits in the field in an almost refrigerated environment (when we have typical Fall temps) and waits to be harvested. Warm weather, like we've been having, and anticipate several more days of, allows things to get too close to over-maturity. If we knew the weather would be reliably warmer this time of year, we would continue to plant more vegetables. Most years, as it gets increasingly colder, it becomes a real task to keep everything warm enough to sustain life in a frigid environment.
We still have a ton of great things coming out of the field with some tremendous flavor!
Enjoy,
Derek & Vicky
